Yesterday, 20th April 2010, was a very special event for Paul Hardcastle. He was invited to give a talk at the flagship Apple Store in Regents Street, London. Considering Paul has only ever once publicly performed 19 which was at The Royal Albert Hall, the anticipation was palpable for fans and music lovers to get an opportunity to listen to Paul talk about this iconic record and his diverse career.

Arriving a good hour early, Paul had a chance to check out where he would be speaking and suss out how many people might be there. This quickly became apparent there would be quite a few as there were already people grabbing seats! Not long after Maxine and Paul Hardcastle Jnr arrived, in anticipation of a special performance.

Before long, it was time to take to the floor. All seats were filled and there was a bank of people standing all round to get an insight into what was going on. Starting off the event with a special screening of Paul’s performance of 19 at the Royal Albert Hall. Instantly engaging the audience with a great performance video, and ultimately the iconic hook, n n n n nineteen could be heard resonating through the store. From this point on Paul was able to settle into things. The audience hanging on his every word, engaging in questions about 19, his videos, songwriting and his experiences in the music industry. Paul has a great knack in keeping the atmosphere fun and captivating, and is never short of a word or two! Playing videos he’s created from the latest 25th Anniversary release of 19 to work that he created in America from his incredibly successful Jazzmasters collection. No stone was left unturned in regards to Paul’s lengthy and full career.

About half way through the one hour talk, Paul decided to lighten the mood. “After all this talk about war and destruction, i think it’s time we chill out a bit!”. He explained how Maxine (his daughter) had introduced him to Logic from discovering it through her own music career, and that everyone should get the chance to hear what the next generation of Hardcastle’s were coming up with. And with that, Maxine and Paul Jnr took to the stage to perform an exclusive performance of Maxine’s own track Another Chance. Maxine joked it would be the only time her dad would ever say she taught him something! The brother and sister duo made for great diversity in the evening. It’s clear music runs through the veins of the Hardcastle family, as Maxine has a great voice and talent to front her own material, and Paul Jnr shows world class talent on the saxophone.

By this point, Paul was clearly in his element. Able to banter with the audience, and answer any question that was fired at him. Before long, Paul’s hour was up. He’d taken the audience on a journey of his life in music, how 19 defined a generation and his career in America. Paul finished up by thanking every for coming, and as a gesture of his appreciation he gave everyone the chance to get hold of the video of his performance from the Albert Hall and amazingly the original demo of 19 that got him his record deal with Chysalis Records. If this wasn’t enough Paul spent another 45 minutes signing autographs and taking pictures. This topped off what was an enjoyable, engaging, insightful look into Paul Hardcastle’s illustrious career.

It’s been 25 years in waiting, but the time is here for the highly anticipated remake of Paul Hardcastle’s iconic record 19 to be released globally. From today (19th April) you will be able to download all versions of 19. Including “Boys To War”, “The Vision” “Welcome To Hell” mixes and a special remix by Ministry of Sound DJ Richard Murray. The 25th Anniversary Edition has been inspired by the plight of service men and women in Afghanistan.

Good promo with 7 days to go!

Another good day on the promo trail. Was meant to start the day with an interview on Sky News but they postponed at the last minute and went for an interview with a certain David Cameron instead to chat about some election thats going on! Should be on there later this week or next week. So the day started with a visit to Sun Radio to do an interview with Martel Maxwell. Went really well. She played 19 Boys To War and really seemed to get the message we are trying to put across. Hopefully the newspaper will take note and write an article! Feel free to email The Sun newspaper and tell them!



After the interview it was a quick transfer across town to Talksport Radio for an interview Haksby and Jacobs. This is a great show and was a good chance to play the record to a larger more diverse audience. Had a great time with the guys and i think that really enhanced the feel of the interview.
Now, i’m over a BBC Western House doing a bunch a interviews for regional BBC stations including BBC Sussex, BBC Surrey and BBC Manchester. So if you’re in any of these places, look out for the interview coming soon!

Easter brings global news coverage!

This Easter weekend has been a whirlwind of press coverage at home and abroad for the 25 Anniversary release of 19. Everything from BBC News, to ABC News and NME to BBC 6 Music. It’s great to see that the message if finally cutting through and people are starting to take notice. We’ve also been having a great response from troops serving abroad and those who have fought for their country. Ultimately, these are the people that count. All of this coverage means nothing if the brave people that Paul is trying to highlight in ’19’ don’t get the recognition they deserve. It’s been a tough road trying to get TV and Radio to play something that doesn’t shy away from the reality of what is going on in Iraq and Afghanistan. The BBC One Show, who have done a great piece on 19 which was to be aired tonight (6th April) have postponed this, due to not wanting to show something that is related to the war now the election has been announced. Lets all just put the war to the back of our mind shall we, whilst our Prime Minister relates the recovery of our economy to Wayne Rooney foot. Radio is also being a little shy to the record. This is why the support of everyone online talking about this release is so important. The more pressure that is put on broadcasters, and the more people want to hear it, they will have to give in soon!
